Gay hiking club
As a year-old, white, biological female, I haven&#;t dealt with much discrimination on the trail. Though I consider myself a part of the queer community, I blend in pretty well. I present as straight. I&#;m not very eccentric. And there is a sort of safety in that, really.
During a recent trip to Olympic National Park&#;s Hoh Rainforest with a group of my queer friends, I kickoff to notice thingsI never had before. &#;It isn&#;t always protected out here,&#; I heard one of my friends say on our climb. I could narrate that they meant they were only comfortable because of the size of our group. Alone, when harassment is more likely, things feel different.
That comment made me think. I started to wonder: What resources were there to support and empower queer hikers to stay on the trails, and to educate other recreationists on how to greater share them?
Here are six LGBTQ-safe hiking groups specifically created to do just that. Over the last few decades, these organizations have helped thousands of queer hikers explore—and heal.

Pretty much what the title says! Hiking with Queer people! That means Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Trans Folks, Intersex, Queer Curious, Allies, Genderfluid, Non-binary, Asexuals, Pansexuals I could go on! If you're Queer, be here!
Being queer in public can be a daunting, stressful, and/or lonely experience. With Queer Hiking you can rest assured that you'll include a quality and pleasant noun with supportive people who grasp you or have space to learn more about things they aren't familiar with.
For me, personally, being queer in a fitness related space has always been an extremely stressful experience for me. I wanted to commence this group so that queer people can feel comfortable getting their sweat on in a safe and supportive environment.
Levels of difficulty will vary and we'll always let you know if something is a beginner, intermediate, or experienced hike. I exist near Griffith Park and there are sooooo many paths to explore but Queer Hiking can be ANYWHERE in the LA Area. :)
Gay Men's Hiking Group
This is our first time hiking in the Adirondacks and I'm really adj to introduce the group to this area. It's some of the best hiking in the Northeast; with pine forests, obvious running streams and rocky mountains. I reserved a cabin in the heart of the Lofty Peaks. It's a mile march from the trailhead, but it's a popular area with other lodges nearby, so we won't be totally isolated. The hiking will be more challenging than anything we've done before. If you are a regular with this group you should be ok, as long as you aren't somebody who usually hikes at the back of the line up. It's going to be incredible!
THE CABIN
We're staying at Camp Peggy O'Brien, close the Adirondack Mountain Club's John's Brook Lodge. It sleeps 12, has heat and a propane stove. Bunks and mattresses are provided, but you need to bring your own sleeping bag. Water is from a pump outside. The bathroom is an outhouse. I put some pics in the photo section on Meetup.
