The beautiful conditions offshore continued on Day Four of the MidAtlantic and as expected a big portion of the fleet, boats to be exact between Cape May and Ocean City, headed offshore. The billfish bite continued to improve and although light marlin were found in beat numbers, breaking the 69” and pound minimum for the species to make the leaderboard continued to be difficult. Blue marlin were another story though as they continued to show in good numbers and several were weighed at both tournament venues causing major changes to the leaderboard.

Captain Mike Penza aboard his Oil Slick based out of North Palm Beach, Florida got the evening off to a fast start as moments after 5 p.m. he backed to the scales in Cape May. After the tape measure insert the marlin at ¼” the big blue was hoisted up and tipped the scale at pounds for angler Tom Carroll and put Oil Slick temporarily into third place. Moments later, also in Cape May, Captain James Putzig backed the Fortunate 7 owned by Key Largo, Florida’s Robert Boyce down the chute to the scale at Canyon Club Resort Marina with a big blu

What Kind of Circus Is This?

Remember last week when I told you Montecito was just two clowns short of a three-ring circus? Well, I found the other two clowns, so enter along as we stroll into the Montage big top for another week of thrills and spills!

Look in Ring-Two and you&#;ll find developer Rick Caruso precariously stranded atop his foot, flag-tagged, story-poled Miramar trapeze. He&#;s perched there fresh from a jousting bout with some Miramar neighbors over private road relocation. Caruso created a minor gasp when he looked like he&#;d been thrown off balance by the abrupt end of neighborhood road talks. We hear Caruso wanted to talk road placement, while neighbors had a visions of heights, scale, and mass dancing in their heads.

Caruso was in no mood to change his agenda, so he left the meeting and withdrew his scheme from a September 10 and September 19 Montecito Board of Architectural Review hearing, saying he will redesign the Miramar without the neighbor&#;s road.
